My name is Rachel Lee, and I am a pre-law senior at Brown concentrating in socio-cultural anthropology and on track for the Engaged Scholarship Certificate. I am from Los Angeles, California, and a fun fact is that I have 3 cats and a dog (so I love talking about pets)! Going into college, I already had an interest in pursuing law, but gaining practical experience through internships has helped solidify that career path.
My first internship was the summer after freshman year, where I was a JusticeCorps Legal Access Intern at the Pasadena Courthouse in Los Angeles. There, I assisted a diverse body of self-represented litigants navigate the legal systems. This experience grew my interest in public interest law, leading me to further internships at legal nonprofits. In my sophomore spring semester, I was a client intake intern at the Alliance for Children’s Rights and the Rhode Island Center For Justice. I was also an administrative intern in Summer 2025 at Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL), and I returned in Summer 2026 as a Citizenship Project intern. At AJSOCAL, I learned more about immigration law and working with the AAPI communities in Los Angeles.
On campus, I have also been involved in research, fellowships, and student organizations. Through UTRA funding, I created an independent research project with the anthropology department. I also received the Arthur Liman Public Interest Fellowship, which provided not only funding for my legal non-profit internship over the summer but also an opportunity to attend their colloquium at Yale Law School. I have also been a Community-Based Research and Learning fellow, where I supported faculty with their course and connected them with Providence community organizations. I am also the co-president of Brown’s chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) where I can grow my interest in advocacy and politics.
If any of these experiences sounded of interest to you or if you are just generally interested in law/law school, I would love to share more and get to know about your interests!
